Stone Depot Website Redesign

Stone Depot is a premiere fabricator of counter tops, Jacuzzi and fireplace surrounds, and vanities for residential and commercial applications.

After 10 years their website’s information and design were out of date as the site hadn't been updated since its initial launch.

This project was completed independently.

Scope and Constraints

My client initially only requested a redesign of their website.

The limitations I faced were a 7 week time frame, I had to move their hosting platform, the client didn’t have an official logo or color palette, and most of their content was outdated.

Photoshoot

I photographed countertop edges as well as some of the prefab countertops. This was to provide my client with new content to refresh their pages.

Research

I analyzed the target audience, website content, and did research on 20+ competitor’s websites. I gained insight on user needs and what was missing overall.

Pain Points

  • Products are hard to view and provides services were unclear.

  • Existing website was outdated.

  • No style guide direction from client.

  • Needed new pictures and content.

  • Host for domain didn't let me make the edits I wanted to.

Wireframe

I developed a wireframe in Adobe XD to outline the new structure. From research I learned that clients browse these sites quickly to find the best deals on the product they're looking for. So I designed the site to be as easy to navigate as possible, while clearly stating what products and services are available.

Prototype

To clarify my intentions to my client, I developed a prototype with the styling incorporated. This utilized the disability friendly color palate I made for the new brand colors along with my custom logo (see below).

The reorganization and streamlined content was well received with users. The website became much easier to read, and faster to navigate to find what they were looking for.

User Testing

The prototype was carefully updated after acquiring and implementing user feedback from 2 iterations of user tests and +3 client meetings.

I made a custom logo for Stone Depot as well

Outcomes

I achieved my goals of:

  • Addressing user concerns for difficult services identification.

  • Reorganizing and updating the style of the website.

  • Taking new pictures of their products.

  • Changed the host for the domain with the client's permission.

Results

Became more adept at using Wordpress and Adobe XD. Worked with users to gain insights on the process of searching for this kind of service. Gained experience working solo with a new client and business, designing a logo, and developing an interactive prototype.

Looking back I would’ve:

  • Liked to have the opportunity to do more user testing.

  • Started the host transfer before working on the prototype to save time.

  • Made an official branding guide for the company.
